Jesus Magic

“We are confident that God is able to orchestrate everything to work toward something good and beautiful when we love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan” (Romans 8:28 The Voice). Let’s dispel a Christian myth right now; there is no such thing as Jesus-magic! (Uncle Dursley would be proud) There is no secret word that forces God’s hand, there is no magic act that can convince him to give into MY plan, and there is no magic lamp to rub that will coerce him into following my lead. But way too often that’s what I reduce Him to. I use lines like “but God I have been doing so much for you, and I wanted to go there, why not!?!?!” Somehow I actually believe that I earned His favor, that I can earn His blessing on my plan.

But the verse from Romans is different, what is the only thing humans like me can or even should do in the plan for my life? “Love Him and accept His invitation to live according to His plan.” It always comes back to that relationship, he just wants me to love Him, and what is crazy is that it is good for me to love Him, it is healthy, it is simple. We always try to muddy the waters with a bunch of religious deeds, but those do not impress God. Can you see God exclaiming, “GEE WIZ! I am so glad Danny created that blog, without that thing I would have been in some major trouble, I will definitely hand him the manuscript for a New-York Times Bestseller now! Kudos Danny, here’s some chocolate.”

Doubtful.

He is proud of me because when He looks at me He sees Jesus, because I am found in Jesus. I cannot do enough good to earn more love or do enough evil to loss that love. I am His, and that’s the beginning. So I will get close to Him and watch as He unfolds His perfect plan.
